GR86 complete kit for the BMW R 12 G/S

The GR86 Kit transforms the BMW R 12 G/S into a modern tribute to the legendary Paris-Dakar motorcycles. It combines classic rally styling with greater range, adapted ergonomics, extensive protective components and a high-mounted Akrapovič-Unit Garage exhaust system.

The design draws on the rally history of Unit Garage founder Fabio Marcaccini, who competed in the Paris-Dakar five times during the 1980s.

Plug-and-play and fully reversible

Each component is designed for easy and reversible installation. No modifications to the motorcycle's original parts are required. The included instructions and video tutorials guide you through the conversion, which can be completed within a few hours.

Oversized GR86 fuel tank

The original fuel cap, fuel pump and activated carbon filter are reused. The low-fuel warning light remains functional. All brackets for mounting the tank are included.

Certain original BMW crash bars and brackets for BMW auxiliary lights are not compatible with the tank. Unit Garage recommends its own compatible crash bars and light brackets. The BMW logos visible in the photos are not included. Pre-cut 3M double-sided adhesive tape for reusing the logos from the original tank is included in the set.

Fenouil fairing and front fender

The ABS fairing is based on the look of the R80 GS PD and has been adapted for the BMW R 12 G/S. It replaces the original windscreen and provides aerodynamic protection. It is available in light white, matte black or red. Integrated brackets and the required mounting hardware are included; an extension is optionally available.

The original front fender is available in various colors matched to the original colors or the kit's color scheme. This allows the original colored plastic parts to be stored unchanged.

Comfort handlebar and off-road handlebar pad

The old-school handlebar with crossbar has a constant diameter of 22 mm. It is higher than the original handlebar and offers a more relaxed riding position thanks to its more comfortable bend.

The easy-to-install off-road handlebar pad with Unit Garage logo protects the rider's face from the crossbar in the event of a fall. It is 23,5 cm long and has a diameter of 6 cm.

Rear fender and rally seat cover

The painted ABS rear fender incorporates the lines of the GS models from the 1980s. It replaces the original fairing beneath the seat and comes with installation instructions. The BMW logo shown in the images is not included.

The cover for the original rally seat is made from high-quality synthetic leather. An additional foam layer increases comfort. The cover features a grab strap and sealed seams that prevent water ingress.

For installation, remove the seat, detach the original cover after removing the staples, center the new cover and secure it with new staples. The work requires some skill; if unsure, installation by an upholsterer is recommended.

High-mounted Akrapovič-Unit Garage exhaust system

The exhaust system is not compatible with the left-side frame for BMW bags.

Aluminum engine guard

The engine guard made from 3 mm thick anodized Peraluman light alloy protects the engine and exhaust headers off-road. It is cold-formed, features outlet openings and distinctive reinforcing ribs, and is larger than the original part. Its shape protects both the front exhaust headers and the particularly exposed area of the catalytic converter.

Mounting hardware, vibration dampers and spacers are included, so the engine guard comes ready to install.

Crash bars for both sides

The crash bars are made from steel tubing with a diameter of 25 mm and a wall thickness of 2 mm. The double-sided protective tubing provides protection in the event of a fall and integrates into the frame of the BMW R 12 G/S. A highly durable powder coating protects the surface.

CNC-machined engine covers

The two covers incorporate the classic lines of older BMW boxer engines and reinterpret them in a modern way. They are CNC-machined from solid material and are available in two versions:

• Black anodized with machined fins and logo
• Sandblasted and anodized with machined fins and logo

The covers are compatible with the BMW R12 boxer models R 12, R 12 nineT and R 12 G/S.

Minimalist passenger grab handle

The stainless-steel handle with a highly durable powder coating provides support for the passenger, helps secure luggage behind the seat and can assist when moving or supporting the motorcycle off-road.

The two small original brackets for additional straps beneath the rear mudguard must be removed for installation; the handle serves the same function. It is compatible with all Unit Garage bag frames and comes with an installation kit.
