Minimalist R 120 G/S conversion with classic lines

The R 120 G/S Basic Conversion Kit reduces the front of the BMW R1200 GS to a clean, lightweight design and relocates the radiator in front of the engine. The result combines the character of classic G/S models with the comfort and handling of the original motorcycle. The replacement components weigh a total of 6,4 kg less than the corresponding original parts; four kilograms of this reduction comes from components located in front of the handlebar on the standard GS.

Concept and Design

• Minimalist front without the standard fairing

The manufacturer specifies an installation time of approximately four hours. The motorcycle can be ridden without a fairing or fitted with the designated optional fairings. The Basic Kit is not compatible with a high-mounted fender or the Fenouil windshield.

Tank Covers and Seat

The lightweight tank covers are supplied with mounting holes, screws, rubber buffers, a rear mounting bracket, and machined bushings. The right cover can be removed quickly to access the air filter; the rear bracket features a slot for a tank bag. The three upper M5 clips are transferred from the motorcycle and used with the supplied M5 x 12 mm button-head screws. The original pointed M5 screws must not be used, as they may damage the covers.

The black seat is made from high-frequency-embossed synthetic leather in the seating areas and features hand-finished side stitching with cotton thread. It is designed for long journeys, mounts to the original mounting points using its own frame, and retains the original lock and vehicle key.

Fairing and Rear Components

Front, Handlebar, and Headlight

• CNC-machined handlebar risers made from solid aluminum alloy with an anodized finish
• The original handlebar position and original upper section of the risers are retained
• Homologated headlight with bulbs and the parts required for installation
• Steel headlight frame with highly durable powder coating
• Mount for the Basic headlight and designated mounting points for optional fairings
• The original instruments can remain in their position

Tank and Radiator Conversion

Sturdy powder-coated steel tank brackets replace the original headlight-frame, radiator-mount, and tank-mount assembly. They use the same mounting points as the removed subframe and accommodate the original rubber buffers from the R1200 GS.

The low-radiator kit relocates the original radiator from its position beneath the headlight to the front of the engine. It includes the required rubber hoses, fittings, clamps, and new radiator brackets. The original tubular crash bar can be retained in combination with this kit.

Some components intentionally retained in their original form must be transferred from the motorcycle. The original R1200-GS logos are not included in the kit.

Compatibility

The kit is designed for BMW R1200 GS models from model years 2004 to 2012; the appropriate version for 2004–2007 or 2008–2012 must be selected. On the Adventure model, installation is possible only if the original plastic tank is replaced with the original tank from the R1200-GS model.

Original ADV aluminum cases with metal frames can be used in the R 120 G/S configuration. Original Vario plastic cases require a suitable case frame available separately. Unit Garage continuously develops the kit’s details; the images may show an earlier version.
